Bill Jay

After 25 years in academia, I have suffered through more than my fair share of graduation speeches complete with all the usual cliches, pabulum and platitudes strung together in an endless stream of tedium. In the unlikely event that I would ever be invited to address the graduates, I would give the shortest speech on record:

Dear Graduates,
Find something you love to do.
Get good at it.
Hope, but certainly don't expect others will appreciate it.
Then, just possibly, you might be able to make a living at it.
Thank you and good luck.
